Jimmy Cornell is our Atlantic crossing advisor and the narrator of the series.
Jimmy
is the godfather of world cruising. In 1969 he took up sailing while
working as a reporter for the BBC World Service in London and in 1974,
fitted out a 36 foot sailboat - the first 'Aventura'. He left England
in 1975 with his family on a world voyage that lasted 6 years and took them
to some 70 countries over a total of 60,000 miles.
In 2005 Jimmy
finished his 3rd circumnavigation on his aluminium built AVENTURA III, and
to date he has sailed in excess of 200 thousand miles in all oceans of the
world.
In his writing, Jimmy decided to tackle the various
aspects of sailing and offshore cruising in a systematic way. As the
founder of the highly successful ARC transatlantic rally, as well as
several round the world rallies, Jimmy has come into contact
with thousands of cruising sailors. He conducted extensive surveys with
them in every ocean of the world, covering aspects of voyaging
under sail. Jimmy's reputation as a writer on cruising matters was
consolidated by the 1987 publication of "WORLD CRUISING ROUTES", which
became an international best-seller. It is one of the
best-selling nautical publications in the world. His companion volume
"WORLD CRUISING HANDBOOK" is now in its third edition.
In 2000. Jimmy launched www.noonsite.com
which is now regarded as one of the most successful sailing websites. It is used by thousands of cruising sailors as an
unbiased source of practical information and reference. Noonsite
attracts on average over one million hits per month.
